Shower Tray Resurfacing VS Replacement?
It’s actually easier to re enamel the shower tray on-site, where it is than to replace it.
Replacing the shower tray can end up costing more due to having to pay for a plumber, maybe destroying the surrounding tiles and having to get that fixed.
It’s also contributing to a greener environment by repairing the shower tray you have instead of buying a completely new one.
How Long Does The Job Take?
Shower tray resurfacing is done at your home and it usually takes 4-6 hours to complete the full shower tray repair and shower tray re-enamelling procedure.
When Can I Use The Shower Tray After Its Re Enamelled?
You can use the shower tray after 24 hours from completion of the job by our technician.
Has The Shower Tray Been Worked On Before?
If the shower tray has been worked on before and was re-enamelled previously then it may show up that the shower tray is flaking, cracking, peeling away from the original surface.
In this case we have to undo the work of the previous job before we can actually respray the shower tray.
Only then do we respray the shower tray.
How Long Will The Shower Tray Last?
The shower tray should last years, sometimes up to 10 years or more depending on the use of it. We have done showers years later to bring it fully back to life again so it’s smooth and shiny.
A shower tray like anything will wear and tear over time. You can’t expect it to look perfect after 10 years.
Is The Bathroom Protected?
Yes we cover the floor with dust sheets so it’s protected. We mask all around the shower tray so there is no over-spray.
We have an extractor that blows out any dust and enamel spray that is in the bathroom. We clean up as best we can after the job but it can get a bit dusty and it’s hard to catch everything working in a small space.
You may have to rinse the shower tray before using it just to get off any residue dust.
What Materials Do We Use For The Job?
We have tested and tried all the different enamel products and materials out there and we have found the best ones for the bath resurfacing job.
They are not the cheapest materials on the market but they are the best and that’s why we use them. The enamel we use is long lasting and durable. It has a deep shine to it.
Yes – please review our warranty page for full details of what the warranty covers. Milton’s provide a 5 Year Warranty.

- We dust sheet the whole bathroom and cover all surfaces.
- We clean the shower with certain spray cleaners for your shower tray and remove any old and mouldy sealant.
- We then repair any damage to the tray, if there are any chips, scratches, limescale damage, holes, worn away enamel, etc. we repair that. This can involve sanding of the tray too so it’s smooth again

What Is Shower Tray Resurfacing?
Shower tray resurfacing is a specialised restoration process designed to repair and rejuvenate damaged or ageing shower trays without physical replacement. Over time, acrylic shower tray repair becomes necessary due to chips, cracks, deep scratching, fading colour, or surface dullness caused by daily use, abrasive cleaners, or accidental impact.
The resurfacing service involves careful preparation of the existing tray, removal of surface defects, and application of high‑performance coatings that bond securely to the substrate. Advanced preparation ensures compatibility with all common shower tray materials found across Greater London — including acrylic, fiberglass, and ceramic‑based units. Unlike temporary fillers or quick fixes, our refinishing systems restore structural integrity while delivering a long‑lasting, non‑porous finish.
This method is significantly more cost‑effective than full replacement, reduces waste, and allows most bathrooms to remain fully operational with minimal disruption. For households, commercial accommodation providers, and developers in London, resurfacing is frequently the preferred option for upgrading shower trays with superior durability and a refreshed aesthetic.
Why Choose Professional Shower Tray Restoration?
Selecting professional shower tray restoration ensures that your bathroom upgrade will deliver reliable results tailored to London’s varied property landscape. DIY products and over‑the‑counter coatings rarely achieve lasting adhesion or structural repair, leaving trays vulnerable to future cracking, peeling, and discolouration.
Our team uses certified techniques and quality‑controlled materials engineered for high humidity environments and everyday use. Each restoration project is completed by trained technicians who follow a systematic workflow to deliver a consistent premium finish. This includes:
- Comprehensive assessment of the tray condition and surrounding waterproofing
- Removal of limescale, old sealants, and surface contaminants
- Repair of structural damage, including deep chips and cracks
- Application of durable resin‑based coatings with precise curing
- Final quality inspection with waterproof integrity verification
By prioritising professional standards, customers throughout London receive lasting results that enhance hygiene, improve surface resistance, and significantly extend the life of their shower tray. Whether your property is located in Central London or outer boroughs such as Croydon, Barnet, or Enfield, our approach ensures a uniform, premium outcome that enhances property value.
Key Benefits of Shower Tray Resurfacing in London
Choosing professional resurfacing delivers a wide range of benefits that go far beyond aesthetics. While improving the appearance of your shower base is certainly important, our services are designed to address performance, hygiene, and long‑term value:
- Extended Tray Life: Refinishing prevents minor surface wear from becoming irreversible damage, extending the functional life of shower trays by years or decades.
- Cost‑Effective Renovation: Compared to full tray replacement, shower tray restoration significantly reduces material and labour expenses, while eliminating demolition and plumbing costs.
- Reduced Disruption: Traditional replacement often involves removing the existing tray and tilework, leading to messy, time‑consuming renovations. Resurfacing allows most bathrooms to remain in use throughout the project.
- Improved Surface Hygiene: The non‑porous coatings applied during refinishing reduce the risk of mould and bacterial growth, contributing to healthier bathroom environments — critical in high‑use properties.
- Aesthetic Enhancement: Faded, scratched, or stained trays are restored to a uniform, high‑gloss finish that complements modern bathroom design trends found across London’s residential and commercial properties.
- Environmental Responsibility: By restoring instead of replacing, you reduce waste to landfill and contribute to eco‑responsible home improvement practices.
Our Comprehensive Shower Tray Services
We offer a full suite of services designed to meet the specific restoration needs of London properties of all types:
- Professional Shower Tray Assessment
Each project begins with an in‑depth inspection to identify damage types, substrate condition, moisture resistance, and waterproofing requirements. This ensures the appropriate refinishing strategy is selected for every tray — whether the finish is acrylic, gelcoat, or composite. - Precision Surface Preparation
Surface preparation is critical for long‑lasting results. Our technicians carefully remove surface grime, limescale, and old coatings, then mechanically profile the surface to guarantee optimal adhesion for the new tray coating system, ensuring durability and resilience. - Structural Damage Repair
Cracks, chips, and deep scratches are professionally repaired using engineered fillers and bonding agents. Structural integrity is restored to withstand heavy use in busy London households and commercial settings, reducing the likelihood of future damage. - High‑Performance Shower Tray Coating
We apply advanced resin‑based coatings that bond directly to the prepared surface, creating a strong, waterproof, and easy‑to‑clean finish. These coatings are selected for superior resistance to wear, chemicals, and daily use in environments with high humidity. - Final Finishing and Polishing
Once cured, the tray surface is finely polished to deliver a bright and smooth appearance that enhances the overall bathroom look. Careful finishing ensures every installation meets exacting quality standards. - Preventive Maintenance Advice
After completion, householders and property managers receive tailored advice on maintaining the newly restored surface, including best cleaning practices and moisture control recommendations specific to London living conditions.
How We Serve London Properties
Our shower tray refinishing services are designed with the diversity of London properties in mind. From Victorian terrace bathrooms with original features to contemporary apartments in Canary Wharf or refurbished hotels in Mayfair, our solutions adapt to property age, tray material, and use‑case requirements.
We understand moisture challenges unique to urban London environments, including older building structures where condensation, ventilation, and historic construction methods can create additional wear on bathroom surfaces. By integrating local knowledge with technical expertise, we ensure that each tray retains performance and aesthetics long after project completion.
Likewise, rental property owners and landlords across London benefit from quick turnaround times and minimal tenant disruption, helping maintain high accommodation standards without prolonged downtime.

Choosing the Right Service for Your Needs

We prioritise solutions that deliver lasting value, match customer priorities, and align with long‑term maintenance goals.
FAQs -
What types of shower trays can be resurfaced?
Shower tray resurfacing is effective for most common materials used in London properties, including acrylic, fiberglass, and older ceramic trays. Each material requires a specific preparation and coating approach to ensure optimal adhesion and durability.
How long does the resurfacing process take?
The entire process generally takes 6–8 hours on site, depending on tray condition and size. Following application, the coating usually requires a curing period of approximately 24 hours before regular use is recommended.
Will the new surface resist staining and mould?
Yes. High‑performance non‑porous coatings significantly improve resistance to staining, mould, and mildew. Combined with proper bathroom ventilation, this creates a hygienic surface that is easier to maintain.
Is resurfacing a permanent solution?
Professional resurfacing extends the life of your shower tray substantially, often by 10 years or more. While no finish is maintenance‑free indefinitely, properly applied professional coatings withstand everyday use and cleaning in busy London bathrooms.
How does resurfacing compare with replacement?
Resurfacing is more cost‑effective and less disruptive than replacement. It avoids demolition, plumbing changes, and retile work. For most cosmetic and structural surface issues, refinishing delivers equivalent or superior results at a lower investment.
Will resurfacing fix deep cracks?
Yes. Structural repair steps in the resurfacing process use engineered fillers and bonding techniques to address deep cracks, chips, and surface fractures before coating is applied, restoring integrity and appearance.
Can resurfacing improve waterproofing?
While resurfacing greatly enhances the tray’s surface resistance to moisture, it should not replace comprehensive waterproofing assessments. If underlying waterproofing issues are affecting the bathroom, these should be addressed separately to prevent future leaks or damage.
How should I maintain my refinished shower tray?
Use non‑abrasive cleaners and soft cloths to maintain the surface. Avoid harsh chemicals that can degrade high‑gloss coatings. Regular ventilation and gentle cleaning preserve the finish and extend service life.
